I hate to say this, but the problem in http://feedback.exalead.com/feedbacks/326387-cannot-log-i... still hasn't been fixed for me...

Also, I encountered an HTTP error 500 when trying to add a comment to the bug I mentioned.

Intermittently, I have run into problems were I am unable to modify or delete files ('Access is denied'). Sometimes, rebooting solves the problem, but the problem seems to move to different files. In other cases, a reboot does nothing.

Using ProcessExplorer, I found that exalead had locked these files. Closing exalead allowed me to modify/delete the files. I am running Exalead one desktop Free 4.6.0.504.

With the new version, it is no longer possible to display more than 4 bookmarks (icons) per line on my personal Exalead homepage. It was very convenient with the previous version to see all bookmarks at once on the screen rather than having to scroll down. Would be nice if you could add back this preference "display 4/6/8/10 bookmarks per line". Thanks

I do not understand why I cannot connect to Exalead Desktop unless I am connected to the web. There does not seem to be offline support and it does not make sense to me. This error should only appear if I am trying to search through Exalead Desktop to the web. This started with 4.5 and it remains a problem with 4.6. I am running XP with 1 GB of RAM.

Also, i do not understand why, since Exalead is supposed to be a federating search engine why I cannot search the web and my desktop at the same time (assuming I am connected to the web). This was possible in previous versions of Desktop?

Im using Firefox, but now after I get in FF, I go to Exalead and use it LIKE a browser. It's neat and quick. The shortcut buttons are easy to use, convenient and quick. The key to success is how good the search engine is. I haven't used it much but shall give it a test fly for a month or so before I judge . So far so good. I wish you great success

Does the free version of exalead Desktop index Lotus Notes documents? In past builds of 4.6, I was able to select the Notes databases to be indexed. I had un-installed exalead some time ago due to indexing reliability issues. When I installed build 4.6.0.504, the Lotus Notes databases do not show up. However, the 'Index monitoring;' window shows "Lotus Notes: indexing" (never changes).

In my taskmanager, Win XP, Exalead requires 6 running processes besides its index.

This is much to much in rsources.
Are there plans to fix this?
Could you explain why this is necessary?

I just downloaded Exalead Desktop (v. 4.6) and tried it on several folders containing images and videos (not too big folders, about 50-500 files), indexation seemed to work fine (it took only a couple of minutes each time and files are correctly retrieved in "text only mode") but previews never work for most files (even for JPEG or AVI files...). It worked however for some WMV and some BMP files (but not for all of them ), so I guess this functionality is supposed to work as for Web searches. Also, links like "Open containing folder" or "Delete" produce no effect when clicking on it. I tried with both IE and Firefox (even with the lowest Intranet security restrictions), nothing changes...

Each result page contains a bunch of javascript code which send our queries to google.

Exalead is choosed by users as an alternative to Google global monitoring. Why do such things ?

Hello,

I've an fresh installation from Exalead Desktop 4.6.

If I wan't to open properties (http://127.0.0.1:17500/preferences) or Exelad Search (http://127.0.0.1:17500/search/mypcSearch?q=), the error "Your Exalead one:desktop product is not yet started. Please use link in MS Windows start menu to launch it." is shown.

Reboot or close/reopen Exalead doesn't solve the problem.

What could I do?

I have just installed the latest 4.6 desktop It first uninstalled the 4.5 before installing. It completed indexing, but when I attempt a search it opens my browser with the message "Click on Windows start to start exalead" and this
url appears "http://127.0.0.11...rch/mypcSearchq=" However nothing happens.
4.5 worked perfectly
Can anyone help?

Is there any way to go back to desktop version 4.5? (Or add a preview pane below the results list?

I love the new look, but the feature I used the most was rapidly previewing docs - now I have to move between pages rather than just clicking the next document to preview - slows down the process.

Also, can you add the icons back to the Source list? It is easier to tell the sources apart by icon than by text.

There are two key things that are missing from the Exalead:Desktop. Specifying in the query Authors and Attachments. The data for both are already there so I think that are easy to add.

I would think everyone would love to be able to search for:

/foo|bar/ source:"outlook" Authors:Dave* hasAttachment:true

Maybe it's already there but for the life of me I can't find it.

Why is there no keyboard shortcut to start the Search Window? And why can't I start the Exalead Desktop without the Internet Explorer Chrome when I double click ExaleadDesktop.exe or run the .exe from the command line?

Any Ideas? Workarounds?

This is a serious security issue: Emails in my Outlook spam folder are indexed. When previewed, images are loaded automatically (even though Outlook did not load them).

I think there should be an option to disable automatic image loading within emails, or somehow retrieve the Outlook Settings for the message (argh, probably will be slow...).

In our tests, some downloads on this site tried to change our Web browser home page.

This is what i get in firefox when McAfee siteadvisor is enabled.

Exalead should probably wish to stay in the green. Hope something can be done, some people are picky about sites and if they are not green... Well, with all the spam and spyware, people tend not to trust sites that aren't fully accepted.

The file index for Exalead desktop only updates when the program is started.

The indexing of Outlook works in realtime, but the indexing of files doesn't, so I have to quit Exalead and restart it to update the index

Since I encountered some problems while trying to sign up for the German feedback forum and some people complained about others posting in French here, I have an idea which would avoid all this:

1) make one single forum for ALL languages and abolish the existing ones

2) make it mandatory, that every feedback entry has to be flagged as Englis/French/Whatever when it's posted

3) in the profile options there should be the possibility to chose the language of the user interface of the forum

4) in the profile there should be checkboxes where the user may chose which languages he likes to see. If he/she choses for example French and English, French AND English postings are displayed. If the user choses only German, only German posts are displayed.

Benefit: if all users use the same forum, it's more likely that entries in the languages the users understand are read more often.

I just created an account to participate in the feedback community. I first saw the German site, thensomehow clicked my way to the "create an account" site, but suddenly everything was English. Now I can only log in to the English, but not to the German feedback site. Confusing. Would be better if the account worked for all the exalead stuff...

that's the problem:
If I'm going to exalead.com ...
* ...using my Linux-PC (or a Mac, *BSD...) there's the Link named "Search my PC with Exalead Desktop" -- but Exalead Desktop just works on Windows, so I don't have any profit of this link!
* ...using Epiphany (or any other Browser), there's a box which tells me to add Exalead to the search-box of Firefox -- but of course I can't use!

There are even more of this examples (p.ex: Toolbar). And those things are annoying.

But you could easily change this, using a system and Browser check! That won't be hard for you - I think. :)
