You should allow people to get ongoing results from a search query as an RSS feed the way that Bing, Yahoo, IceRocket, etc. allow (or FeedMySearch.com for Google results). This is something that recruiters and investigative researchers find very useful.

Here is an example that Sebastien Richard gave in another bug report:

This search gives 0 results (as a comparison "jenn" returns 2 million hits and "jennifer" returns 29 millions)

Note that fixing regexp search is all the more important since prefix search doesn't work either.

I need to set my childrens preferences to Enabled. I can do this and save the preferences, but when I reopen exalead it goes back to Moderate. WHY !! very very enoying, please put a fix in place.

"Long .doc files partially indexed" by pana test

Exalead indexes only the first 4 or 5 pages of the .doc documents. If I search for a phrase within the first 4 or 5 pages, it works. If I search in an higher page, no result.

I made some more test: I think that the files are indexed, but the search engine manage only single words and not phrases. Always with the limit explained here above (ok for the first 4 or 5 pages, but not for the other pages).

It's impossible to log into my account using the login link from feedback.exalead.com (to be more precise, logging in from here does log me onto http://www.exalead.com, but I'm still logged out from feedback.exalead.com)

I finally managed to log in by logging into http://www.exalead.com and following the link
http://feedback.exalead.com/sso?token=f54...longhexstring...

However, I think most users wishing to drop feedback wouldn't find this workaround (and if they can't find it they can't even drop feedback to say they couldn't find it!)

My browser is Firefox 3.5.2.

I tried exalead because I wanted a search engine WITHOUT a drop down of suggestions as I type

I found I could no longer use google because of this being forced on people when searching

Google do though give the option in the settings to disable this intrusion but I fail to see such a setting in Exalead

I gave Exalead's Welcome page two days and I hate it more and more. Now, my so called "icons" that have a picture of the site I have put on my Welcome Page are so large I can barely see any of them without having to take the time to search for them. WHY did you do that? It's ugly AND why don't the "icons" show the picture of the opening web page as quickly as it used to? I sit and I sit waiting and most of the time, I am lucky to have eight "icons" showing the webpage. Otherwise, everything else is greyed out. Didn't you bother testing this out on a group of un-biased people? I would have been nixxing it from day one if I would have been asked to be on that board. Now I have to go look for another browser and go back to the old way of keeping my favorite sites accessible. You ruined such a good thing. IF you wanted to get creative, why didn't you make those "icons" so we could make them whatever size we wanted them to be for our use? Now that would have been a great update. Instead you ruined a great setup. Why, did anyone complain about the old setup?
This makes me sick, you make ten steps backwards with your update. Most companies try to move forward, congrats, you managed to make a huge amount of us unhappy.
What is truly hysterical is that I can't find a place to hit Send... so are you refusing to see our complaints cuz there are so many?

Dear my EXALEAD team,

you brought up a new designed page, I like it ... but one comment and complain I have.

When I klick on one of my bookmarks, this link will open in the same tab. So the EXALEAD page is been gone. Before I could configured the bookmark that way, that the bookmark link would be open in a new tab. That is the way I like it, to keep the EXALEAD page on the top! :)

I use the Exalead start page to keep my most frequently used links. Although I've check the appropriate boxes, now when I click on a link, I go to a new PAGE not a new TAB. I lose the Exalead start page every time I click on a link. Before I kept the Exalead start page open all the time and toggled back and forth, now your engine useless to me.

In the FireFox browser (my browser of choice), all of my links are horizontal - which is great except every time I click on one I navigate away from the Exalead page. In IE, they are vertical (more useless) and opening in a new window (not tab) as well.

I wish to say that your search engine is the best! I have recently dropped Google as my homepage browser and added EXALEAD!

However, I wish to offer the following suggestions in order to make the Exalead search engine much more efficient, fun and more unique:

1) The option to change the homepage colour and text style (various colour and style options)

2) The option to customize the background image of Exalead (ex: uploading background images in order to further customize your own Exalead homepage)

3) The option to create an Exalead e-mail account

With these 3 potential improvements to the Exalead search engine, there will be a REVOLUTION IN THE INTERNET INDUSTRY!!!!

So please Exalead team, Make these improvements in order to increase Exalead's charisma and style!

Mir gefällt Exalead sehr gut! Nur eine Sache stört erheblich:
Drei dicke, fette Anzeigen zu Beginn jeder Ergebnisanzeige.

Die drei immer als erstes - also vorneweg.... das ist ätzend. Ich kann lsie nicht mal ausblenden oder verschieben wenn ich angemeldet bin. Tatsächlich ein Grund weiterhin Google zu benutzen...

I installed the search engine on my PC a few days ago. After that I had problems with files which were locked and could not be deleted. This problem ceased when I ended the search engine.

The search engine would be really helpfull, but with this problem I can not use it.

Hello. I know about regular expressions, but I'm wondering if they'll work with intitle: tokens, for example:

I want to search a Java class which starts with "Execut", so in a perfect world i'd do:

site:java.sun.com inurl:javase/6 intitle:"(Java Platform SE 6)" intitle:/Execut.*/

but that won't give me any matches. Regular expressions DO WORK when I remove the last "intitle", but this way I'm not getting what I want. Any suggestions on this?

Many users don't want to register, because it's a privacy issue. When you register, your search tasks can be linked to your profile. However, the only way to some default adjustments is a registration.

But I would like to have the following option without having to register:

- view: text only
- "vintage homepage"

I think this can easily be solved by providing additional URLs, so that a user can directly have the "vintage homepage" and a certain view, without having to register.

Just put up another URL that can be bookmarked and directly takes the user to the vintage design and/or a specific view, e.g.

Vintage homepage:
http://www.exalead.com/search/homepage/vintage

Vintage homepage plus text-only view:
http://www.exalead.com/search/homepage/vintage/textonly

Normal homepage plus text-only view
http://www.exalead.com/search/homepage/textonly

etc.

Or even easier: Use specific additions in the URL:

http://www.exalead.com/search/homepage.php?design=vintage...

etc.

So users can have their desired start page without having to login or manually switch. I am a user who deletes all cookies and cache data when closing my browser. So each time I restart I would have to enter my login data again. However, even if the login was automatically done, I still wouldn't like to login. I never login to search engines. Because this is always a threat to privacy, no matter how much you trust a company.

Hello,

I was looking for an alternative to Google and read many articles about that topic. Exalead is obviously the best alternative, because:

- Exalead is respectful to the user's privacy
- Exalead is European (and French! I love France)
- Exalead's idea to narrow the search is great
- Exalead gives more precise results
- Exalead's ability to switch between "text", "text & images" and "text, images & extra info" is superb
- Exalead's website has a very attractive interface
- Exalead is easy to use

So I like your search engine very much. However, there is one thing that I am missing:

It would be great if users could rate a search result. It would be good if users then could mark it as "commercial", "non-commercial", "relevant" and "irrelevant". When later on enough websites have been rated, then in the "Narrow search" options the users should be able to choose options like that.

o include users' rating: (which is based on "relevant"/"irrelevant" rating)
o only non-commercial websites
o including commercial websites
o only commercial websites

For example, I was looking for "Ireland sightseeing" and just want to get information on good places to visit, but didn't want to find websites from travel agencies. So I would like to switch off commercial results. However, sometimes users want to book a travel. So they could switch on "including commercial websites" or "only commercial websites".

The users' rating of course should be just an additional option to narrow the search. This is to keep the option to have neutral results.

So, what I am thinking of is a combination between the principles of Exalead and Wiki search.

I would be interested in an option to "Narrow [my] search" to "Site type": Wiki. (Often I search not only for information but for places where I can participate and share information myself...)
(Maybe also an "exclude" option that appears via "More choices" could be useful for some people?..)

I'm not sure though if there is much more people that would be interested in that feature...
