Exalead one:desktop v4.6.0.515 (Free) Has Large Memory Footprint

On a Vista 32-bit Ultimate laptop with 2GB of RAM, my typical physical memory usage is between 60-65% with a fair number of applications running. With Exalead running, physical memory usage is 90% and higher. This causes a large amount of pagefile activity when coming out of screensaver.

The actual numbers from Task Manager do not seem that bad. The Exalead tasks add up to working set of 150.5MB and 2MB of the paged pool. Firefox currently shows a 316MB working set and Word is using 720KB of the paged pool. It may be that Exalead is just one more large application that causes the system to thrash.

Exalead one:desktop v4.6.0.515 (Free) Displays Poorly in IE8

The 'Narrow your search' box is squished so that individual lines cannot be read or selected. In 'text only' mode, the search results are squished together. In 'text, images and extra information' mode, any extra information overlays the following entries. I have screenshots.

Enabling or disabling IE8 compatibility view mode does not make any difference that I can tell.

Exalead one:desktop v4.6.0.515 (Free) Not Indexing All Lotus Notes Attachments

I noticed that Exalead was finding some but not all PDFs attached to Lotus Notes documents. Searching on

source:"Lotus Notes" filetype:pdf

only finds PDFs in mail and archive databases, but not in databases based on other templates. The same problem also shows up with DOC attachments.

Exalead one:desktop v4.6.0.515 (Free) Not Indexing Notes Inbox

Although Exalead is indexing the Calendar and Todo views in my Notes 8.5 inbox, I cannot search on any documents that are only in the Inbox view.

I had reported a similar problem on 2008/07/24 (ticket #2711) and was informed that this problem was fixed in 4.6.0.432. I confirmed that this version resolved the problem. However, it appears to have returned.

Exalead one:desktop v4.6.0.515 (Free) Does Not Index Entire Notes Document

I reported a problem in August 2006 against Exalead one:desktop Pro 4.0.945.50 where some Notes documents were not fully indexed. On Sept. 7/2006, Damien Dykman indicated that Exalead was only indexed the first Body field even if the Notes document had multiple Body fields.

I reported the same issue against the free version in June 2008. Charles Rosso was able to reproduce the problem with a test database that I provided him (ticket #2455).

I just confirmed that the problem exists in 4.6.0.515. Accuracy of indexing is essential for a search engine. Is this problem recognized and if so, when will it be fixed?

If it is fixed in the Pro version, how do I go about purchasing a license? I am a one-person shop.
thanks, Norbert

Flag of China is another flag

Hello,
On the Exalead Search Engine main page, there's a link that says 'Other Countries'.
When I click on that link, there's a mention of China, but the flag that is shown above it, is not the flag of China.

China's flag is red with yellow stars in the top left corner.

Could you correct this?

Thank you!

no RSS feed for ongoing search results

You should allow people to get ongoing results from a search query as an RSS feed the way that Bing, Yahoo, IceRocket, etc. allow (or FeedMySearch.com for Google results). This is something that recruiters and investigative researchers find very useful.

Regexp search doesn't work

Here is an example that Sebastien Richard gave in another bug report:
http://www.exalead.com/search/web/results/?q=%2Fjenn.%2A%2F
This search gives 0 results (as a comparison "jenn" returns 2 million hits and "jennifer" returns 29 millions)

Note that fixing regexp search is all the more important since prefix search doesn't work either.

Exalead one desktop locking files

Intermittently, I have run into problems were I am unable to modify or delete files ('Access is denied'). Sometimes, rebooting solves the problem, but the problem seems to move to different files. In other cases, a reboot does nothing.

Using ProcessExplorer, I found that exalead had locked these files. Closing exalead allowed me to modify/delete the files. I am running Exalead one desktop Free 4.6.0.504.

Long .doc files partially indexed

Exalead indexes only the first 4 or 5 pages of the .doc documents. If I search for a phrase within the first 4 or 5 pages, it works. If I search in an higher page, no result.

I made some more test: I think that the files are indexed, but the search engine manage only single words and not phrases. Always with the limit explained here above (ok for the first 4 or 5 pages, but not for the other pages).

However, I think most users wishing to drop feedback wouldn't find this workaround (and if they can't find it they can't even drop feedback to say they couldn't find it!)

My browser is Firefox 3.5.2.

Turning Off Suggestions

I tried exalead because I wanted a search engine WITHOUT a drop down of suggestions as I type

I found I could no longer use google because of this being forced on people when searching

Google do though give the option in the settings to disable this intrusion but I fail to see such a setting in Exalead

Bookmarks display

With the new version, it is no longer possible to display more than 4 bookmarks (icons) per line on my personal Exalead homepage. It was very convenient with the previous version to see all bookmarks at once on the screen rather than having to scroll down. Would be nice if you could add back this preference "display 4/6/8/10 bookmarks per line". Thanks

GIVE US THE OLD WAY BACK!

I gave Exalead's Welcome page two days and I hate it more and more. Now, my so called "icons" that have a picture of the site I have put on my Welcome Page are so large I can barely see any of them without having to take the time to search for them. WHY did you do that? It's ugly AND why don't the "icons" show the picture of the opening web page as quickly as it used to? I sit and I sit waiting and most of the time, I am lucky to have eight "icons" showing the webpage. Otherwise, everything else is greyed out. Didn't you bother testing this out on a group of un-biased people? I would have been nixxing it from day one if I would have been asked to be on that board. Now I have to go look for another browser and go back to the old way of keeping my favorite sites accessible. You ruined such a good thing. IF you wanted to get creative, why didn't you make those "icons" so we could make them whatever size we wanted them to be for our use? Now that would have been a great update. Instead you ruined a great setup. Why, did anyone complain about the old setup?
This makes me sick, you make ten steps backwards with your update. Most companies try to move forward, congrats, you managed to make a huge amount of us unhappy.
What is truly hysterical is that I can't find a place to hit Send... so are you refusing to see our complaints cuz there are so many?

A klick on the bookmark....

Dear my EXALEAD team,

you brought up a new designed page, I like it ... but one comment and complain I have.

When I klick on one of my bookmarks, this link will open in the same tab. So the EXALEAD page is been gone. Before I could configured the bookmark that way, that the bookmark link would be open in a new tab. That is the way I like it, to keep the EXALEAD page on the top! :)

Best regards, Stefan

I hate it

I use the Exalead start page to keep my most frequently used links. Although I've check the appropriate boxes, now when I click on a link, I go to a new PAGE not a new TAB. I lose the Exalead start page every time I click on a link. Before I kept the Exalead start page open all the time and toggled back and forth, now your engine useless to me.

In the FireFox browser (my browser of choice), all of my links are horizontal - which is great except every time I click on one I navigate away from the Exalead page. In IE, they are vertical (more useless) and opening in a new window (not tab) as well.

The Exalead search engine should be more customizable

Dear Exalead team,

I wish to say that your search engine is the best! I have recently dropped Google as my homepage browser and added EXALEAD!

However, I wish to offer the following suggestions in order to make the Exalead search engine much more efficient, fun and more unique:

1) The option to change the homepage colour and text style (various colour and style options)

2) The option to customize the background image of Exalead (ex: uploading background images in order to further customize your own Exalead homepage)

3) The option to create an Exalead e-mail account

With these 3 potential improvements to the Exalead search engine, there will be a REVOLUTION IN THE INTERNET INDUSTRY!!!!

So please Exalead team, Make these improvements in order to increase Exalead's charisma and style!

Thank You for reading my suggestions Exalead team!

Cannot connect to Exalead Desktop offline

I do not understand why I cannot connect to Exalead Desktop unless I am connected to the web. There does not seem to be offline support and it does not make sense to me. This error should only appear if I am trying to search through Exalead Desktop to the web. This started with 4.5 and it remains a problem with 4.6. I am running XP with 1 GB of RAM.

Also, i do not understand why, since Exalead is supposed to be a federating search engine why I cannot search the web and my desktop at the same time (assuming I am connected to the web). This was possible in previous versions of Desktop?

Thanks in advance for your help.
