I don't think there is a simple way to do that, because of the way the software is done.

But if you find a workaround, it maybe could interest some users :)

Don't use registry to save exalead-options. Use a file like XML and Create one exe-File with http://www.molebox.com/. So, there are no entries in registry and no dll must be registered.

Another way to create exalead portable is http://portableapps.com/development !

Sorry for my bad english!

If exalead goes portable, it's the worlds one and only portable desktop search!!!!

After searching for months, it does appear to be true that currently there is no decent portable search tool. Copernic hasn't done it year. Pocketsearch is moderately useful but it does not work on portable files mounted as a separate volume, i.e, the way Truecrypt works on portable USB drives, which rules out that program with Truecrypt. Making a portable version of Exalead freeware would be a huge marketing bonanza for Exalead at very little cost because it would overnight become a must-have freeware program on virtually *all* portable USB drives--which are now edging toward a 1> 8GB default size for most people who routinely use them (as of today, Jan 2009). That would raise the profile of Exalead dramatically among anyone who ventures to places like portableapps and portablefreeware.com to get apps for their USB sticks. There would be no competition. I presume Copernic is aware of this gaping hole in apps for portable USB drives and is likely to create a portable version very soon. I prefer Exalead, however. I hope you folks can find time to make a portable version of Exalead. its very easy to do. See the FAQ on how to do it at portableapps.com development forum.
