When each workstation starts indexing network drives, there will be some significant load on the network. Hypothetically, a server could also run exalead and generate a server-based index (local to the server). Now, I wonder if it would be possible to integrate such a server-based index with Exalead client PC (end-user) and if this would reduce the network load generated by Exalead (I assume 10 to 100 PCs updating their indexes of network drives would not add too much load, but 1000 would...).
I really like the way how we can just sign in and customize our home page. It's a lot easier to get to other websites.
I'm using exalead, because I can use regular expressions and a (associative and distributive?) variable NEAR operator. I also like exalead's image search syntax, although is not yet as powerful as yahoo's search syntax, cf. my essay: http://www.searchlores.org/alltheweb.htm
IMHO exalead still has several blind spots, even on web search. I would use exalead even more for the following ten reasons:
1. The existence of image: (to search image's alt and src attributes) operator, as was the case of the former Altavista.
2. Ways of searching for words in links. The link: operator as is, is almost useless. From a seeker's point a view, it would be much better to also have linkdomain:, linkextension: and inlink: operators. Cf. my inktomi essay, to see *why* they are useful: http://www.searchlores.org/inktomi.html
3. A way of searching for metatags, as on gigablast. Cf. http://www.gigablast.com/rants.html#metas (Useful for the same reason as intitle: operator)
4. The existence of the anchor: operator, as was the case of the former Altavista. Which means that nowadays there's still no way of searching for 'table of contents' webpages.
5. The existence of the inanchor: operator as on Google or Yahoo!. (Useful for the same reason as intitle: operator)
6. The existence of the * operator, as on Google or Yahoo!. Otherwise it is impossible to search for the following language pattern: "Darwin * that", which would search for: Darwin claims that, Darwin says that, Darwin argues that, Darwin thinks that, Darwin claimed that, Darwin said that, Darwin argued that, Darwin thought that, etc, etc...
7. A way of searching for the presence / absence of HTML tags (operator tag:[img;table;form; script;applet;object;etc]). Cf. my inktomi essay for some uses.
8. The existence of filesize: operator for web searching, as on the former AllTheWeb. Useful for filtering out too small and SEO optimized pages and to filter out big pages which have the keywords by chance as dictionaries and big blog pages.
9. A way of searching for the relative location of the page with operators similar to feature:index and depth:number. Cf. my inktomi essay to see why they are useful.
10. The underscore should be treated as a word separator. Otherwise if I'm searching for "john smith", I'll loose john_smith, _john_smith_, john__smith and probably some more.
Exalead *must* not forget that most searchers would use exalead for the following single reason:
* A bigger database > 25 billions (the American one) (more or less the last known Google's database size).
It would be neat if exalead could detect the prefered language of a user from browser settings (HTTP_SERVER_VARS) and then forward him/her automatically to the site in that language. Even better if the automatic selection could then be overwritten by a cookie or a language selection link. As I understand it, the system now only allows to switch languages from the settings page or by manually typing exalead.com (for English) or exalead.de (for German).
Bonjour,
Serait-il possible d'avoir Exalead parmi les moteurs de recherche proposés en add-ons de Firefox (fenêtre de recherche rapide
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:4
Hello,
that's the problem:
If I'm going to exalead.com ...
* ...using my Linux-PC (or a Mac, *BSD...) there's the Link named "Search my PC with Exalead Desktop" -- but Exalead Desktop just works on Windows, so I don't have any profit of this link!
* ...using Epiphany (or any other Browser), there's a box which tells me to add Exalead to the search-box of Firefox -- but of course I can't use!
There are even more of this examples (p.ex: Toolbar). And those things are annoying.
But you could easily change this, using a system and Browser check! That won't be hard for you - I think. :)

Exalead in Galician language, please =)
The idea is to give the user the possibility to predefine sets of sites to be excluded. The problem is that there are somtimes sites I especially don't want to find (like amazon, ebay and "price finder"-sites). So maybe a user should be able to define such sets and/or there could be predefined sets (like: no commercial/bussines/... sites).
I would like to suggest to add a small cross next to each thumbnail, and if you do not like the that particular (i.e spam) you click on the cross and that result will dissapear and the one below will come up on its place.
How can I edit my profile??

It would be great to have an RSS-Reader on Exalead, so that you could reach your favorite feeds from any computer. Just below the short-cuts would be perfect!
Cheers,

You should create a version of exalead in Spanish of Latin America.
The differences between the Spanish of Latin America and the Spanish of Spain are the same than the differences between American and British English.

Is there really no API available, like for Google, Yahoo (nice one!)
Any plans ? If not, is there no problem (I mean legally) in accessing the engine programmatically, with high frequency?
Any plans on integrating blogs? (news) ?
I love the 'NEAR' operator so much ;) (and Google hasn't one)
In the small boxes which can contain user's shortcuts ,the latter should have the possibility to display small but useful widget like local forecast, news, ... or other widget I didn't think of.
Permitting or not to extend to the lexical area (plural, verbal forms) should be an option.
In my opinion, this option should be kept as a default for the user.
